Flow Cytometry Lab

The Flow Cytometry Laboratory provides complete immunophenotypic analysis by multi parameter flow cytometry and detection of terminal deoxynucleotidase (TdT) by immunofluorescence staining. The assays are of value in the diagnosis and surveillance of Leukemia (acute and chronic), Lymphoma, and immunodeficiency and immune altered states.

Leukemia and lymphoma

Flow cytomoetry and TdT staining are useful in the diagnosis and classification of acute leukemia, the diagnosis and classification of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and the detection of residual leukemia or lymphoma following therapy. Analysis by the Flow Cytometry Laboratory includes morphologic evaluation by a pathologist with experience in hematopathology, selection of a suitable panel of immunophenotypic markers, notification of results by telephone within 24 hours of receipt of the specimen and mailed or faxed report including an interpretation of the data.

Immunodeficiency states

Flow cytometry is used for the monitoring of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection, diagnosis of congenital immunodeficiency states, and analysis of iatrogenic immunodeficiency. The Flow Cytometry Laboratory performs a complete immunophenotypic analysis following guidelines provided by the CDC. The report includes the perecentages and absolute counts for T-cell subsets, B-cell and natural killer (NK) cells, as well as a summary of any previous results.

Immune altered states

Flow cytometry is of value in detecting and monitoring immune altered states associated with autoimmune diseases, exposure to toxic chemicals, and drug therapy.
