Welcome to the website of The Department of Pathology at UT Health San Antonio, Texas. The department has been in existence since 1966 and has grown steadily since that time and now consists of forty-eight full time faculty members and two emeritus faculty. Adjunct faculty members from the community contribute to the educational programs of the department. The department has an active Pathology Residency Training Program that currently consists of sixteen residents and six Fellows. The clinical activities of the department are housed in the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Audie Murphy Division, the University Health System, University Hospital, and the Health Science Center South Texas Pathology Reference Laboratories, and offer a full range of diagnostic activities for patient care.

The faculty is respected nationally and internationally for their diagnostic and investigational expertise. The research activities of the department are broadly based and include research on the basic mechanisms of cellular injury and death, pulmonary dysplasia, chondrogenesis, bone and tooth development, prostate cancer and translational studies of breast cancer. The department recognizes the critical role of Pathology as a discipline that touches all of medicine and research and our goal is to foster collaborative studies with faculty members of other schools at UT Health and throughout the nation. This goal extends into our missions of education and clinical services. The vision of the Department of Pathology is to be a dynamic force in student education, a leader in the acquisition of new knowledge in human health through basic and applied research, and to be a provider of patient care activities that will improve the health of our patients.
